MUSCAT: The cardiac catheterization team at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital in the University Medical City (UMC) has achieved a significant medical milestone by performing the first tricuspid valve replacement via catheterization in the Sultanate of Oman.
This makes the hospital the second centre in the Middle East to apply LuX-Valve Plus transcatheter tricuspid valve replacement.
The procedure was led by Dr Fahad bin Abdullah al Kindi, Senior Consultant, Head of the Interventional Cardiology Programme, and Head of the Cardiology Unit alongside Dr Abdullah bin Mohammed al Ismaili, Associate Professor at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences and Head of the Catheterization Department. They were supported by a comprehensive team of technical, nursing, and anesthesia staff. This medical breakthrough underscores the capabilities of Omani professionals in handling and implementing the latest interventional technologies in an advanced medical environment.
It also represents a step that strengthens the University Medical City’s path in introducing and localizing modern treatment technologies, and providing precise solutions that reduce the need for complex surgical intervention, thus supporting the Sultan Qaboos University Hospital’s position as a specialized centre in the region for advanced catheter-based valve treatments as well as reinforces the city’s role in developing high-level specialized care that enhances the level of health services in the Sultanate of Oman.
