MOSD approves association of recruit offices for expats

Muscat: The Ministry of Social Development (MOSD) issued a decision to establish an association of offices for recruiting expatriate workers.
The association will be managed by a board of directors consisting of 12 members, whose term of membership is two years, and they may be elected for another term. Only the founders may run for membership on the board of directors at the first general assembly meeting after the issuance of the declaration decision.
The association is at regulating and standardising the practice of the profession of recruiting expatriate workers and raising the level of performance of offices in cooperation with government agencies, companies, and institutions inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman
It will work to protect the principles of recruiting expatriate workers in a manner that does not conflict with the provisions of the Basic Law of the State and the laws in force in the Sultanate of Oman.
The association will represent the offices affiliated with the association before government agencies and defend the rights and interests of the owners of offices for recruiting expatriate workers, enabling them to perform their work optimally in accordance with applicable laws.
The responsibilities will include coordination, through the Foreign Ministry, with embassies regarding all matters concerning the interests of the offices, and resolving the problems of the offices and those involved with the workers through mediation and reconciliation with all parties.
The association will cooperate with the relevant authorities to eliminate the phenomenon of unlicensed recruitment agencies and to regulate the labor market in cooperation with government agencies and specialists.
It will coordinate with relevant government agencies to bring suitable labor to the Sultanate of Oman, documentation and approval of memoranda of understanding with countries exporting expatriate labour, opening the door to recruiting suitable labor from multiple countries, and approval by government agencies and accredited embassies and consulates in the Sultanate of Oman and the Gulf countries.
The association will have its source of income from member subscriptions, donations, gifts, and bequests, provided that the Minister approves their acceptance, revenue from activities, government subsidies, and other revenues that the ministry approves.
