Safe, secure and strong

 


The Sultanate of Oman is one of the safest countries in the world. Reports from organisations like Gallup and Numbeo highlight its low crime rates and strong law and order institutions.
According to the Gallup Global Safety Report, Oman was ranked among the top 10 safest countries for 2024, securing fourth place in the index, which reflects the country's highest levels of safety.
According to Numbeo Safety Index, Oman was ranked as the fifth safest country in 2025, and the survey gives Oman a confidence rating of 94 per cent in terms of ‘Walking alone at night'.
“The achievements of the ROP over the past years have borne witness to its institutional, technological and human development. The force has become a leading national model in security and service performance, relying on strategic planning and a scientific vision that enables it to develop its service system in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040,' a ROP official said.
The ROP commands, units and centres located in all governorates of the country perform their security and service roles within an integrated system based on discipline and field precision and work to enhance security and public safety through daily patrols, traffic monitoring, and rapid response to incidents and reports, in coordination with the Special Tasks Police units.
The police service centres located in the various wilayats serve as a modern interface reflecting the police's close connection with the community and provide civil status, passport, and traffic services according to standards of quality, speed, and ease, embodying the concept of a modern police force based on serving the public and strengthening community trust.


Digital Transformation
Over the last few years, the Royal Oman Police has been a cornerstone of digital transformation in government operations, having developed over 650 integrated e-systems and services that embody a national model for smart management and service quality. The ROP has expanded its services via smartphones and self-service kiosks, such as providing a digital ID as an alternative to a passport and enabling the electronic display of official documents.
Criminal Investigation
The ROP has been upgrading its technical capabilities and training specialised personnel to enhance its criminal investigation and research system. The Digital Laboratory was also developed with the latest systems for analysing electronic evidence and combating cybercrime, in addition to expanding the biometric database and employing artificial intelligence in analysing crime patterns. As a result of the all-round efforts, the Criminal Laboratory Department and the Fingerprint Section received international accreditation (ISO/IEC 17025), confirming their efficiency and accuracy.
The Cyber Security Centre has also enhanced its capabilities in data protection and countering cyber threats, enabling the police to win the 2025 Cyber Security Excellence Award, confirming its technological leadership and its role in building a comprehensive e-government that keeps pace with modern requirements.
Combating Drugs, Black Money
The Royal Oman Police gives the issue of combating drugs and money laundering the utmost importance due to the threat they pose to societal and economic security. Based on the Royal Orders, the relevant authorities are working to implement the National Strategy for Combating Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (2023–2028), unifying efforts in prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and awareness. Oman achieved an international milestone with the National Financial Information Centre joining the Egmont Group in 2024, enhancing international cooperation in combating money laundering and terrorist financing and protecting the national economy.
The Royal Decree No 72/2023 reorganised the Police College, granting it broader academic powers to enable officer candidates to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in Police and Legal Science, besides receiving institutional accreditation from the Oman Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance Authority.
The Research and Studies Centre at the Sultan Qaboos Academy for Police Sciences plays a leading role in developing security performance by employing scientific research to serve police work and support decision-making. The journal ‘Al Amana’ is one of its most important publications, contributing to the dissemination of security and legal studies and enhancing institutional knowledge.
