MUSCAT: The official opening ceremony for the new Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan was held in Muscat on Wednesday under the auspices of Jeyhun Bayramov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, in the presence of Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister.
The establishment of the embassy represents a significant milestone in the evolving friendship and cooperation between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Azerbaijan, serving to further strengthen bilateral relations and advance mutual interests.
In his ceremonial address, Bayramov expressed profound satisfaction with the embassy's inauguration in the Omani capital. He emphasised that this diplomatic advancement reflects the shared commitment of both nations to deepening their diplomatic and economic engagement. He further articulated his vision for enhanced bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors, including trade, energy, agriculture and education, noting that such collaboration will serve common strategic interests while reinforcing the growing partnership between the two friendly countries.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by officials and diplomatic representatives from both nations.
Earlier, the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Azerbaijan held an official session of talks. The session discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries in the political, economic, cultural and educational fields. It also reviewed regional and international developments of mutual interest.


The Omani side was chaired by Sayyid Badr, while the Azerbaijani side was chaired by Bayramov. The two sides emphasised the importance of sustaining diplomatic efforts to back regional security and stability. They also affirmed their countries' keenness to expand cooperation and partnership across various fields, diversify their common interests for mutual benefit, and continue holding regular consultations on various regional and global issues and challenges.
During the session, the two sides signed an agreement on mutual visas waiver for holders of diplomatic, special and service passports. It aims to facilitate the movement of official passport holders between the two countries. Additionally, a memorandum of understanding was signed for cooperation in the consular field, aimed at enhancing coordination on matters related to citizen affairs and developing frameworks for consular cooperation.
Meanwhile, Shaikh Abdulmalik bin Abdullah al Khalili, Chairman of the State Council, received at the Council's headquarters Bayramov and his accompanying delegation. The Chairman of the State Council underlined the importance of such visits in enhancing bilateral relations and exchanging views on matters of mutual interest, which reflect the keenness of the two countries to promote bonds of cooperation and joint coordination between them.
During the meeting, Shaikh Al Khalili reviewed the role undertaken by the State Council within its legislative competencies and its contributions to studying legal, economic and developmental topics supporting the march of national renaissance, in alignment with the goals of Oman Vision 2040.
On his turn, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan expressed his country's eagerness to enhance bilateral cooperation with the Sultanate of Oman and advance the existing relations towards further development and prosperity, serving the mutual interests of the two countries. - ONA
