MUSCAT: Under the auspices of HH Sayyidah Hujaija bint Jaifer al Said, Bait Al Zubair hosted a cultural evening titled 'Yemeni Arts Exhibition' celebrating Yemeni artistic identity and its deep emotional and historical resonance.
The public event brought together a diverse audience of Yemenis, Omanis and international guests, creating a gathering where art, memory and cultural heritage converged under one roof.
The exhibition showcased artworks by Yemeni artists that narrated stories about their culture, strength and the traditions passed down through generations. Various artistic forms were displayed, including paintings, textiles and handcrafted pieces, all inspired by Yemeni heritage and daily life.
Dr Ashjan Hazem, the organiser of the exhibition, described the event as a journey that began with a simple wish. 'I am Yemeni at heart and Omani in spirit,” she said. “This idea started from a small post on Facebook. It was a wish to gather in one space and show the beauty of Yemen without pain, to remind the world that Yemen carries art, soul and stories worth celebrating. Today, I see that wish alive.'
She expressed gratitude to Bait Al Zubair for hosting the exhibition and emphasised that this event marks the beginning of an ongoing cultural initiative that will continue to uplift Yemeni art.
Among the participating artists, Ahmed Yahya, 23, shared the meaning behind his realist paintings. “I lean towards realism, especially drawing animals, because it allows me to reflect on the beauty of creation,” he said. “Being here among friends from Oman and other nationalities is an honour. Showing my work at Bait Al Zubair is a special honour because it is a well-known place that celebrates art and culture.”
Visitors expressed admiration for the emotional depth and cultural authenticity of the artworks. They were touched by the feelings and honesty shown in the artworks. The exhibition allowed people to experience the Yemeni story, not just hear about it.
The evening highlighted how art can serve as a bridge — connecting histories, identities and people. Through colour, memory and storytelling, the exhibition offered a reminder that culture endures, and that beauty remains even in challenging times. The celebration of Yemeni art at Bait Al Zubair stands as both a tribute to heritage and a gesture of hope for the future.
