MUSCAT: Marafiq and the German University of Technology in Oman (GUTech) have announced a landmark partnership to construct the Marafiq Social Complex in Al Duqm — one of the first large-scale facilities in the Sultanate of Oman to be built using advanced 3D printing technology.
Under the agreement, Marafiq will fund the project as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, while GUTech will design, 3D print and manage the complex upon completion. The project reflects a shared commitment to innovation, sustainability and community development in Al Duqm.
The Marafiq Social Complex will serve as a vibrant hub for local engagement, featuring a nursery, an autism centre, a children’s playground, a multipurpose hall and small shops supporting local SMEs. A dedicated women’s building will offer empowerment and entrepreneurship programmes, complemented by a coffee shop and library to foster learning and creativity.
Aligned with Marafiq’s environmental vision, the complex will recycle and reuse all wastewater for irrigation, promoting sustainable landscaping and greener surroundings.
GUTech’s pioneering use of 3D printing highlights a shift towards faster, more efficient and environmentally friendly construction methods — setting a new benchmark for social infrastructure in Oman. Through this collaboration, Marafiq and GUTech aim to strengthen innovation-led community development and inspire future projects that combine technology, sustainability and social impact in Al Duqm and beyond.
