SALALAH: Dhofar Municipality is currently executing two critical infrastructure initiatives in the Wilayat of Salalah as part of its comprehensive strategy to strengthen urban infrastructure systems. The projects comprise a stormwater drainage system for residential areas and internal road networks, along with protective barriers designed to prevent valley erosion resulting from seasonal flooding, representing a combined investment exceeding RO 6 million.
Dr Abdullah bin Mohammed Baowain, Director-General of Projects and Technical Affairs at Dhofar Municipality, said that the stormwater drainage network project in Salalah carries an estimated value of RO 4 million, with physical progress currently standing at 76 per cent. The project remains on schedule for completion in April 2026.
He elaborated that the initiative focuses on enhancing drainage efficiency across multiple residential districts and internal roadways within Salalah city, effectively reducing water accumulation during rainfall and ensuring uninterrupted traffic flow.
Dr Baowain further detailed that the valley protection project, valued at approximately RO 2.6 million, involves substantial concrete construction works at Wadi Sahalnut and Wadi Thamrin in Salalah. Implementation has reached 54 per cent completion, with project finalisation anticipated during the second half of 2026. - ONA
