Visitor drowns in Dhofar

SALALAH: A canadian citizen who came to Oman on a visit to Dhofar region was reported to have drowned in Wadi Ain Darsis on Tuesday evening, according to the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA).
Pookalat Hashim Abdulkadir, aged 36, a native of Thalikulam in Thrissur district, was one of the early expatriates in Salalah, and is the son of Abdul Qadir, was accompanied by his friends and relatives to the tourist spot when the accident occured.
The deceased had performed Umrah on his way from Canada to Muscat with his wife Sharifa and three children last week before he reached Salalah to spend time with his parents.
An alumni of Indian School Salalah, Hashim was working as an engineer for an IT firm in Canada.
The CDAA has warned people not to attempt to dive into the water ponds, lakes or seas with no precaution. 'And one should watch out for signs of precaution for rheir safety and.others,' he added.
The body, which is kept at Sultan Qaboos Hospital, will be buried in Salalah after legal proceedings, the sources said.
Embassy representative in Dhofar region, Dr K Sanathanan, Nasser Latifi, Mahmood Haji, Pavithran Karai, Hamid Faizi, and Sabu Khan are liaising with the ROP and the hospital authorities for the legal formalities before the burial
