Swiss Attorney General speaks on cyber and economic crimes

MUSCAT: Stefan Blättler, Attorney General of the Swiss Confederation, delivered two lectures on cybercrimes and economic crimes on Tuesday as part of his current official visit to the Sultanate of Oman.
During the lectures, which he delivered at the Public Prosecution Department’s premises in Muscat, Blättler gave an overview of the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland (Swiss Public Prosecutor’s Federal Office), its powers and the special nature of the Swiss legal system.
He elaborated on the concept of cybercrimes and economic crimes, mechanisms for detecting them, reporting them and adjudicating them. He also reviewed related challenges and future prospects.
In the lectures, Blättler laid emphasis on the importance of enhancing international cooperation to combat such crimes.
The lectures were organised within the context of cooperation between the Public Prosecution Department (Oman) and the Office of the Attorney General of the Swiss Confederation, with the aim of exchanging expertise and reviewing standard practices in combating transnational organised crime.
The lectures were attended by judges, representatives of government departments concerned and members of the Public Prosecution Department. - ONA
