Masirah crowned 2025 Women’s Games champs

Masirah Club claimed first place in the overall standings of the 2025 Women’s Sports Games in its third edition, after achieving the highest total points across various competitions, affirming its dominance in women’s sports at the national level.
The closing ceremony was held under the auspices of Dr Madeeha bint Ahmed al Shaibaniyah, Minister of Education, in the main hall of Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher. The event was attended by Khawla al Rawahi, Director of the Women’s Sports Department at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, along with several female board members from sports associations and committees. The festive ceremony included the honouring of winners from all disciplines.
Nine clubs took part in the Games: Salalah, Saham, Qurayat, Ahli Sidab, Al Kamil W'al Wafi, Al Amerat, Masirah, Ibri and Samayil.
The athletes competed in team sports such as basketball, handball, hockey 5s, and volleyball, as well as individual sports including chess, badminton, athletics, table tennis, and e-sports, reflecting the growing participation base and advancement of women’s sports in Oman.
The competitions witnessed fierce rivalry among the participating clubs across all sports. In basketball, Salalah emerged victorious, securing first place ahead of Masirah in second and Saham in third. Volleyball saw Masirah shine by clinching the top spot, followed by Samayil and Saham.
In handball, Qurayat captured the title after an exceptional performance, with Salalah finishing second and Masirah third. Salalah also dominated the e-sports category, winning both Tekken and FC 26, while Ibri, Saham, Masirah, and Ahli Sidab followed in the subsequent ranks.
Masirah’s supremacy continued in badminton, where their players swept the top three positions in both singles and doubles, as Qurayat settled for second place in each category.
In hockey 5s, Salalah claimed the championship after defeating Ahli Sidab 2–0, while Masirah secured third place by edging Qurayat 4–3. The table tennis event crowned Salma al Nasseri from Ibri as the singles champion, followed by Shamsa al Abrawi from Masirah and Samah al Wahibi from Salalah, while Masirah captured the team title ahead of Al Amerat and Ibri.
In chess, Annat al Isaee from Salalah triumphed in the open category, with Yumna al Nadabi from Masirah and Maria al Balushi from Ahli Sidab taking second and third, respectively. Meanwhile, in the under-16 category, Fatma al Ghafri from Qurayat won first place, followed by Noor al Ghafri from Masirah. Finally, in athletics, Masirah continued their dominance by finishing first overall, with Salalah in second and Ahli Sidab in third, further cementing Masirah’s leading position in the Games.
Masirah’s badminton duo, Sarah al Abri and Aisha al Abri, expressed immense joy after winning the doubles title, emphasising that the victory was the result of long teamwork and intense training. Sarah described the win as “an indescribable feeling” after a series of tough matches that required focus and stamina, while Aisha highlighted the strong coordination between them as the key to success, praising the club’s technical and administrative support and affirming their determination to keep improving for future events.
From Qurayat Club, Muzna al Balushi, a member of the championship-winning handball team, expressed her happiness with the achievement, describing it as a milestone in her sporting career. She said the title was achieved through teamwork, unity and determination despite strong competition, adding that this success will be a motivation to keep striving in future editions.
