Fiba Level 2 specialist course to enhance skills

The Level 2 Sports Performance Specialist Course kicked off on Tuesday, organised by the Oman Basketball Association (OBA) in collaboration with the International Basketball Federation (Fiba). The course runs from October 21 to 23, featuring 15 coaches (male and female) from various clubs and sports institutions. International expert Amir Eid is conducting the sessions, which are being held at Seeb Sports Club and Wawan Hall in Al Hail.
The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of Eng Khalfan bin Saleh al Naabi, OBA Chairman, in the presence of Abu Bakr bin Ahmed al Jahouri, Vice-Chairman, and Saeed bin Ahmed al Habsi, Acting Secretary-General.
In his opening remarks, Eng Khalfan al Naabi welcomed the participants, noting that the programme is part of the OBA’s strategic plan developed in collaboration with Fiba under the Fiba Plus Project. He emphasised that the initiative aims to enhance the skills and knowledge of national cadres in both technical and physical aspects. Investing in Omani talent is a fundamental pillar in building a sustainable technical system,” he said. “The association continues to implement its development programmes in collaboration with clubs and sports institutions across the Sultanate.'
For his part, Abu Bakr al Jahwari, Chairman of the Technical Development Committee, explained that the course is a continuation of the successful Level 1 programme previously conducted. It represents a significant step forward in qualifying national coaches in the field of strength and conditioning, providing them with advanced scientific knowledge to improve athletes’ physical performance and reduce common injuries in the game.
He added that the programme is organised in partnership with national institutions such as Seeb Sports Club and Wawan Hall an example of successful collaboration between the sports and private sectors to serve development goals. Al Jahwari stressed that the OBA seeks to build a qualified base of coaches and specialists capable of elevating the technical and physical level of basketball in Oman.
The course includes both theoretical lectures and practical sessions, covering advanced topics such as physical training methods, load management, injury prevention, and the design of specialised training programmes for basketball teams. It is part of the OBA’s comprehensive development initiatives targeting coaches, referees, and performance specialists, all aimed at enhancing professionalism and advancing Oman basketball.
