Dhaka - Authorities in Dhaka have suspended all flight operations at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Bangladesh's airport, following a fire in its cargo section.
Talha Bin Zasim, a spokesman for the Fire Service and Civil Defense Department, said that 32 fire engines were deployed to combat the blaze, which began in the afternoon on Saturday.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh suspended all flights immediately after the incident, stating that operations would remain halted until further notice.
In addition to the national fire service, units from the Bangladesh Air Force and Navy have joined the firefighting efforts, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) department.
The cause of the blaze is not yet known.
Footage from the scene showed black smoke billowing over the airport.
In response, state-run Biman Bangladesh Airlines diverted four of its flights, which were scheduled to land in Dhaka, to airports in Sylhet and Chattogram.
