The Oman Human Rights Commission highly values the issuance of Royal Decree No. (89/2025), approving the accession of the Sultanate of Oman to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. This reflects the esteemed commitment of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq— may God protect him — to upholding the principles of justice and human dignity, as well as Oman's dedication as an active member of the international community to the global human rights framework.

This accession strengthens the legal and institutional safeguards that ensure all individuals enjoy their civil and political rights in a manner consistent with international standards. It also reinforces confidence in the national human rights protection system and its ability to align its legislation and policies with the obligations set forth in the Covenant.

This step reaffirms the Sultanate of Oman’s continuous commitment to enhancing its international standing in the field of human rights and strengthening its engagement with relevant United Nations mechanisms, contributing to the development of national legislation and practices in accordance with the best international standards.
