Strong competition marks start of show jumping season

BARKA: The Oman Equestrian and Racing Federation launched the Show Jumping Championship for the 2025/2026 season on Tuesday at Al Rahba Farm jumping arena, marking the official start of the new season amid strong participation from riders representing various equestrian centres, clubs and military teams.
The opening day witnessed exciting performances across multiple height categories, attracting a large turnout of spectators and equestrian enthusiasts.
In category ‘E’, with fences set at 100 cm, a total of 26 horses competed, Rashid bin Amer al Mashaykhi from the Royal Oman Police clinched first place riding Raad, followed by Mohammed bin Rashid al Wahaibi on Azhar from the Royal Cavalry in second and Abdulrahman bin Fahmi al Harrasi on Ventasis from the Olympic Equestrian Training Centre in third.
In category ‘D’, featuring 16 horses and fences at 110 cm, Sarah bint Suhail al Kathiriyah from Al Rayan Stables claimed first place riding Lonny Geng, Khalid bin Said al Wahaibi, also from Al Rayan Stables, secured second place on Hensley, while Basem bin Nasser al Ghabshi from the Royal Oman Police finished third on Fifty Fifty.
In category ‘C’, with fences at 120 cm, international rider Sultan bin Hamood al Touqi from the Olympic Equestrian Training Centre continued his fine form, taking first place on Extreme, reinforcing his reputation as one of Oman’s top show jumpers.
The day concluded with category ‘B’, fences set at 130 cm, featuring three competitors. Once again, Sultan bin Hamood al Touqi dominated the event, winning first place on Fantasia from the Olympic Equestrian Training Centre, Madin bin Said al Yousfi on Wadoud from the Royal Cavalry finished second, while Mohammed bin Salim al Hadhrami on Thikrayat from the Royal Cavalry came in third.
Trainers praised the high level of organisation and competitiveness displayed on the first day, noting that the new season promises stronger performances as riders and horses gear up for upcoming regional championships.
