Sohar stay unbeaten as Majees clinch key win over Al Shabab

MUSCAT: Sohar continued their impressive run in the 2025–2026 First Division Volleyball League after earning a convincing straight-set victory (3–0) over Saham at Sohar Sports Complex as part of the third round of Group A competitions.
Sohar started the match strongly, relying on powerful serves and quick attacks to take the lead early and win the first set 25–12. Maintaining the same attacking rhythm, the team dominated the second set, capitalising on Saham’s reception errors to close it with the same score, 25–12. Saham attempted to recover in the third set through better defensive organisation, but Sohar maintained control and sealed the win 25–19, completing a clean sweep of three sets to none.
Head coach Said Jumaa, who returned to lead the team this season, succeeded in utilising his players’ skills effectively, showcasing a well-balanced performance both offensively and defensively.
In the second match held at the same venue, Majees claimed a valuable 3–1 victory over Al Shabab.
Majees began the encounter in dominant form, controlling play through sharp attacking strikes to win the first set 25–14. The momentum continued in the second set, with Majees extending their lead to take it 25–16. The third set saw fierce competition, as Al Shabab managed to narrow the gap and win 25–23. However, Majees bounced back powerfully in the fourth set, executing a well-structured offensive plan to close the match with a commanding 25–11 win.

SUPERIORITY
Detailed statistics highlighted Majees’s superiority in most aspects of the game, recording 98 points to Al Shabab’s 66, along with three ace serves compared to none for their opponent. Majees also dominated in blocking, registering six successful blocks to Al Shabab’s two.
Despite both teams committing a similar number of errors (32 for Majees and 39 for Al Shabab), Majees demonstrated greater balance in attack and defence, with 15 service errors compared to 14 for Al Shabab an overall performance that confirmed their control throughout the match.
Majees’s standout player, Hilal al Miqbali earned the 'Best Player of the Match' award after an outstanding performance, scoring 17 points with a 59 per cent attack success rate, while Mazin al Subhi was Al Shabab’s top performer with 10 points and a 35 per cent attack efficiency.
Following these results, Sohar strengthened their position at the top of Group A with a third consecutive victory, remaining the only unbeaten team with the maximum nine points. Majees advanced to third place after their win over Al Shabab, while Masirah held onto second despite not playing this round. Saham slipped to fourth with three points after losing to the leaders and Al Shabab remained at the bottom of the standings without a win so far.
