Big wins mark second round of Girls’ Football League

MUSCAT: The second round of the 2025 Girls’ Football League witnessed a remarkable scoring spree, as academies and schools continued to deliver strong performances and showcase the rapid growth of women’s football in the Sultanate of Oman.
In the standout matches, Aria Academy dominated Afifa Al Yaaribi School with a 10–0 victory, while Juventus Academy triumphed over Hail Al Awamer School with a score of 8–2. Juventus then reaffirmed their superiority with a second win against Afifa Al Yaaribi School, finishing 6–0. The round concluded with Hail Al Awamer School defeating Al Salam School 6–0.
The league is organised by the Oman Football Association (OFA), represented by its Women’s Football Committee, in cooperation with Oman Refco Company, and the matches are held at Goal One pitches in Al Athaiba. The second round featured a high technical level and great enthusiasm from the players, reflecting the growing attention to women’s football development. The tournament also coincides with the celebration of Omani Women’s Day, which highlights the vital role of women in various fields, including sports.
Farah al Ghafri, a player from Hail Al Awamer School, said that some teams in the league possess greater experience and receive more professional training compared to school teams, making the competition stronger and more challenging. However, she emphasised that these technical differences do not diminish her team’s determination, affirming that she and her teammates will give their utmost to perform better in the upcoming matches and achieve positive results.
She added that participating in the league provided her with a valuable opportunity to enhance her technical and physical skills while learning from other well-trained teams. She noted that such competitions help players gain self-confidence and discipline within the team. Farah al Ghafri expressed her hope that women’s football in Oman will continue to develop in the coming years through more tournaments and improved training programmes.
Meanwhile, Tala Qarnqout, a player from Juventus Academy, expressed her happiness to take part in the league, noting that the competition is filled with enthusiasm, encouragement and support from coaches and fans alike. She said: “We are having a special experience that helps us improve our skills and refine our technical abilities. The team prepared well before the start of the league with intensive training focused on tactical and physical aspects.”
She added that understanding and team spirit among the players were key factors behind their success, emphasising that such tournaments give them more confidence on the field and fuel their passion for football. Qarnqout expressed her ambition, along with her teammates, to continue achieving victories and competing for the league title, praising the efforts of the OFA and the Women’s Committee for providing an inspiring sporting environment for girls.
