MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Iraq discussed ways of enhancing cooperation in the academic field on Tuesday. They also explored opportunities for exchanging expertise in the fields of higher education, research and innovation, as part of efforts to further develop bilateral relations.
The discussion took place when Dr Rahma bint Ibrahim al Mahrouqiyah, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, received Prof Alia Abbas Ali Al Attar, President of the Northern Technical University in the Republic of Iraq.
The two sides discussed prospects for enhancing cooperation in the field of twinning higher education institutions in both countries, activating joint training programmes, and benefiting from the expertise of Iraqi residents in evaluating academic programmes at higher education institutions in the Sultanate of Oman.
The drive seeks to upgrade the quality of education and keep pace with academic accreditation standards.
The two sides also explored scopes for expanding cooperation in the fields of incubators, innovation centres and technology transfer. It also looked into the possibility of organising joint events to enhance academic and research communication. - ONA
