Muscat: An Omani citizen, Omama al Lawati, is among those evacuated to Jordan after being part of the Global Sumud Flotilla that arrived through the King Hussein Bridge, the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates announced on Tuesday. According to the ministry’s spokesperson, Fuad Majali, evacuees have been transported from the flotilla into Jordanian territory.
The Sultanate of Oman's Foreign Ministry confirmed the report and said, 'Within the framework of the efforts exerted by the Foreign Ministry and in cooperation with its partners in the region, the evuacation of an Omani citizen who participated in the Global Samud Flotilla' and was detained by the Israeli occupation authorities has been facilitated, paving the way for her return to the homeland.'
She was later received at Oman's embassy in Jordan by the Ambassador Sheikh Fahd bin Abdulrahman al Ojaili.
The group included citizens of several nations who had been on board the humanitarian mission.
Majali said the Jordanian authorities, in coordination with the ministry, facilitated the safe entry of the evacuees and ensured that all necessary assistance was provided.
The participants represented a wide range of countries, including Oman, Bahrain, Tunisia, Algeria, Kuwait, Libya, Pakistan, Türkiye, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Colombia, the Czech Republic, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Serbia, South Africa, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Uruguay.
Oman's Foreign Ministry said last Friday that it was closely monitoring the situation of Omani citizens participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla and was committed to ensuring their safety and facilitating their safe return home.
At that time, the ministry reaffirmed it was working diligently through its partners and networks to guarantee their protection and called for the safety of all flotilla participants to be upheld.
Oman also reiterated its call on the international community to assume its legal and humanitarian responsibilities, to exert pressure on the occupying forces to cease repeated violations, and to allow humanitarian aid to reach the Gaza Strip without hindrance.
