Seafarers urged to avoid marine activities amid unstable weather: ROP

Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) advised seafarers across the Sultanate of Oman to avoid all marine activities until further notice, citing unstable weather conditions and high sea waves.

The ROP said the current unstable weather and elevated wave levels pose risks to fishing boats, leisure craft and other maritime operations. Authorities called on all seafarers to wait until conditions improve before venturing out to sea.

The police emphasised the importance of closely following official updates and weather advisories issued by competent authorities to ensure public safety.

Meanwhile, rough sea is being observed along the coastal strip extending from Muscat to al Wusta due to the indirect impact of the tropical cyclone 'Shakhti'.

Some places in South al Sharqiyah governorate like al Ashkharah and Aseela have experienced rainfall of varying intensity.

The Oman Meteorology Office said 'Shakti' has strengthened into Category 1 tropical cyclone over the northwestern Arabian Sea, about 330 kilometres away from the Sultanate of Oman’s coast, with maximum wind speeds around the centre ranging between 64 and 70 knots.

 The Oman Met Office noted that the tropical system is currently moving west-southwest, with a low probability of further intensification at this stage.
