OTA concludes 2025 Junior Boys & Girls tourney on bright note

MUSCAT: The Oman Tennis Association (OTA) concluded the 2025 edition of the Junior Boys and Girls Tennis Championship on bright note on Wednesday at the tennis courts of Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. The event featured strong competition with the participation of 65 players across multiple age categories. Hassan Mohammed Taqi, Treasurer of OTA, presented medals to the winners of the final matches in the final ceremony.
In the U14 Boys final, Abdulrahman al Rahbi claimed the title with a 9-2 win over Richard. In the U8 Boys category, Fayyad al Hilali secured first place after defeating Ali al Riyami 6-4. The U9 Boys final saw Omar al Shaibani edge past Hatim al Rahbi 6-4, while the U10 Boys final was also won by Omar al Shaibani over Hatim al Rahbi with the same scoreline. In the U14 Girls category, Areen al Azkawi beat Talia al Busaidy 9-7 to claim the gold. In the U18 Mixed category, Ahmed Ehab emerged champion with a 9-2 win over Richard.
Hassan Mohammed Taqi congratulated all the winners and praised the strong level of participation across age groups. “This monthly championship is a vital platform for nurturing players’ skills and preparing them for future representation in national teams. Several of our national squad members competed and showcased strong performances and this reflects the depth of talent we have,” he said.
“The OTA gives great importance to youth categories as they represent the future of Omani tennis. Our players have already delivered promising results in international events, and we have high hopes for them in upcoming competitions. These local tournaments are essential preparation steps and opportunities for coaches to identify emerging talents,” he ended.
Tournament Director Faisal al Balushi appreciated the collaboration from the players. “The championship was managed effectively by the OTA coaching staff, whose efforts were crucial to its success. We congratulate all the winners, and we are confident these competitions will further prepare our national team players for upcoming international assignments. More similar events are scheduled later this month and next month, offering participants ranking points that will enhance the local classification system,” he said.
