Two people, an Omani man and an expat woman, died in the Wilayat of Al Suwaiq after consuming contaminated water. Another Omani woman recovered.

The Royal Oman Police (ROP) said that the police command in North Al Batinah Governorate responded to a water-poisoning incident involving an Omani family from the Wilayat of Al Suwaiq after drinking contaminated water. The incident resulted in the death of an Omani man and an expatriate woman, while another Omani woman recovered.

The Royal Oman Police (ROP) handled the incident in coordination with the relevant authorities, took samples of the water, and conducted the necessary tests. The lab test result of a sample of the water revealed that it was contaminated.

The relevant authorities recalled water bottles of the Iranian brand Uranus from local markets. Also, as an additional precautionary measure to ensure the safety of citizens and residents until the investigations related to this incident are completed, the relevant government authorities have banned the import of all types of bottled water from the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The ROP calls on all citizens and residents not to use this brand of bottled water and to immediately report any complaints regarding the same.

The Food Safety and Quality Centre has issued a warning to consumers to dispose of the Uranus Star drinking water products due to its contamination with harmful substances. The Centre is also taking precautionary measures to ensure total withdrawal of this bottled water brand in the local market as well as prevent its entry into the country through border crossings.
