MUSCAT: Oman national football team head coach, Carlos Querioz, picked a 26-player squad for the domestic preparatory camp, which will be held in Muscat from Tuesday and will run until Sunday. The short six-day camp comes at a crucial juncture in the Red Warriors’ build-up to the decisive stage of the AFC Asian Qualifiers – Road to 2026.
The Portuguese tactician opted to call up a fully local-based squad for this gathering, as the professional players remain committed to their respective clubs abroad. Querioz and his technical team are fully aware that the camp is an opportunity to utilise the short break in the ongoing Elite League season. The squad was confirmed following the conclusion of the league’s second round, with domestic competition set to resume after the camp on September 25.
With just three weeks separating Oman from their high-stake fixtures against Qatar and the United Arab Emirates in Doha on October 8 and 11 respectively, this camp is designed to sharpen technical readiness and refine tactical cohesion. Oman team players will have busy schedule as they will conduct both morning and evening training sessions, combining physical drills with tactical exercises to enhance team chemistry, discipline, and overall balance in attack and defence.
The camp will also provide Querioz with another chance to evaluate his options across all positions, particularly with competition intensifying for starting roles. The coaching staff will assess domestic talent, many of whom were part of the Red Warriors’ recent campaign in the Cafa Nations Cup 2025 in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. Oman showed promising performances during the regional tournament, including a hard-fought penalty shoot-out loss to India in the third and fourth playoff fixture after a 1-1 draw in regulation time. That campaign not only boosted the team’s international experience but also gave valuable exposure to several emerging players who are now part of this domestic camp roster.
The inclusion of experienced campaigners alongside young emerging talents reflects the coach’s approach of blending stability with fresh energy in the squad. Oman are aiming to make history by securing a maiden qualification for the Fifa World Cup. The camp in Muscat will act as an important stepping stone for Querioz and his players as they will determine to fine-tune their strategies and strengthen their readiness for the decisive October showdowns in Doha.
