Muscat: The General Federation of Oman Workers (GFOW) reported a wide range of worker support services and interventions during August 2025, reflecting its ongoing efforts to safeguard labour rights and address workplace challenges.

According to GFOW, eight cases of worker support were handled through negotiation sessions for both individual and collective complaints. Of these, three cases were successfully resolved, while five remain under review.

The Federation also responded to 51 legal inquiries and consultations, underscoring its role in guiding employees on labour-related rights and obligations.

During the same period, 249 workers were affected by mass layoffs across three companies, with the GFOW intervening to provide necessary support and oversight. In addition, five trade unions aligned their operations with legal requirements, strengthening compliance within the sector.

Key issues addressed in August included wages, leave entitlements, working hours, project transfers, and project completion. Broader economic conditions, contract terminations, and demands for improved working conditions were also central concerns, alongside the ongoing formation of trade unions.

The GFOW reaffirmed its commitment to representing workers and ensuring fair practices, while continuing to cooperate with relevant authorities and companies to promote a balanced and sustainable labour market in Oman.

In June 2025, the General Federation of Oman Workers (GFOW) successfully intervened to prevent the termination of contracts for 80 Omani employees.

The federation also handled the termination cases of 16 Omani and 14 expatriate workers. Additionally, 80 workers were reinstated after being laid off, following requests from private sector employers to downsize due to economic pressures.
