PARIS: Twenty six countries have signed up to contribute to Ukraine's security after any ceasefire or peace deal with Russia, French President Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday.
'We have today 26 countries who have formally committed — some others have not yet taken a position — to deploy as a 'reassurance force' troops in Ukraine, or be present on the ground, in the sea, or in the air,' Macron told reporters after a meeting of Kyiv allies.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Kyiv and its allies have an understanding of a general framework for security guarantees, and that documents were being prepared in each of the countries that have agreed to contribute.
Speaking at a briefing in Paris, he added that a strong Ukrainian army would be central to any such commitments and urged European defence firms to boost their work to full capacity. — Reuters
