The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology organised two specialised workshops yesterday as part of the Gulf Green Mobility Forum. The workshops gathered experts and representatives from Oman and the GCC countries to support the transition to a sustainable transport system.
The first workshop, titled “Green Corridors Among GCC Ports”, focused on international best practices in implementing green corridors, opportunities to enhance maritime integration among GCC states and strategies to reduce carbon emissions in line with IMO guidelines and national zero-emission objectives.
Eng Mohammed bin Abdullah al Rawahi, Assistant Director-General for Maritime Affairs, highlighted that the workshop aims to propose practical pilot corridors, exchange technical expertise on environmental incentives and establish technical coordination points to advance the initiative.
The second workshop, “Gulf Youth Leading Sustainable Mobility”, focused on raising awareness of electric vehicles (EVs) as part of the shift to sustainable energy. It included interactive sessions on EV technologies, practical demonstrations of charging stations and test drives, allowing participants to experience the technology firsthand.
Additionally, a youth challenge was launched to develop innovative initiatives promoting EV adoption through awareness campaigns and technical innovation. Teams presented their projects to a judging panel, with the most creative and impactful initiatives to be announced at the forum’s conclusion.
The workshops form part of broader efforts to foster knowledge exchange, innovation and youth engagement in sustainable transport initiatives across the GCC. — ONA
