MUSCAT, AUG 30
The actions of 36th Arab Clubs Table Tennis Championship will kick off today (Sunday) at the main indoor hall of Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher by tight group fixtures. The championship, hosted by the Oman Table Tennis Association (OTTA) in cooperation with the Arab Table Tennis Federation (ATTF), will continue until Thursday, featuring 35 clubs including 24 men’s teams and 11 women’s teams.
All participating teams arrived in Muscat and majority of them took the advantage of having their final warm-up sessions in the main venue ahead of the group stage contests. Matches are being played across eight tables inside the main venue and the morning session will begin at 9 am and will run until late evening with scheduled breaks. Teams have been divided into groups, with the top two sides from each advancing to the knockout rounds.
SEEB IN FULL READINESS
Representing Oman in the Arabian event will be through Seeb, Ibri, and Salalah clubs who will begin their campaigns on Sunday, targeting strong performances to advance beyond the group stage. The three teams have undergone extensive domestic training programmes to ensure full readiness.
Hamid Shams Sharbabaki, a professional player with Seeb Club, affirmed that his team is well-prepared after a rigorous six-week camp that featured two training sessions daily. “We are in best shape for this event despite the difficulty of this tournament as many Arab clubs include high-level professional players. It will not be easy, but we are determined to give our best and reach the advanced stages, representing Seeb and Oman in the best possible way,” he said.
Ibri’s head coach Mohammed Shoman echoed the sentiment, noting that his squad began preparations on August 18 with twice daily sessions focused on technical, tactical and fitness elements. “The championship is very strong, with most clubs having professional players. This will add to the excitement and competitiveness. Ibri signed Yemeni professional Ibrahim Jibran, and we are confident that with his experience, alongside our local talent, we can achieve positive results,” he stated.
Seeb will rely on the talents of Asaad al Raisi, Jihad al Riyami, Muhannad al Balushi, Ghassan al Ghassani, Haitham al Mandhari, Bilal al Rashdi, and Hamid Shams. Ibri’s squad included Ahmed al Riyami, Luqman al Farsi, Badr al Jassasi, Mohammed al Mutawa, and Nasser al Balushi. Salalah will be represented by Julanda al Kharousi, Mishaal al Shihi, and Muaath al Shihi.
