The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, represented by the Directorate-General of Scholarships, held an orientation session at Sultan Qaboos University’s Cultural Center for students awarded external scholarships and grants for the academic year 2025-2026.
The gathering, attended by students and their families, aimed to provide guidance on academic, legal, cultural and social aspects of studying abroad.
Fahad bin Said al Qasabi, Acting Director-General of Scholarships, emphasised that the orientation was designed to prepare students not only academically but also as ambassadors of Oman’s values and traditions overseas.
This year, 550 scholarships were allocated for bachelor’s degree programmes, including those coordinated with entities such as the Military and Security Medical City and the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs. In addition, 70 grants were offered by countries including Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan and France, widening the scope of destinations.
Specialists from the ministry and the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs highlighted the importance of cultural identity while adapting to life abroad. Students also received practical advice on travel procedures, personal safety, visa regulations and the use of e-services such as the 'Asas' system.
The orientation also featured testimonials from students and parents, reflecting a mix of pride, excitement and reassurance. Additional virtual sessions, including tailored programmes for students with disabilities, will further support their academic journey.
Al Qasabi summed up saying, “A scholarship is not simply a ticket to study overseas. It is a responsibility to represent your country with dignity and to return with knowledge that builds Oman’s future.”
