SALALAH, AUG 24: A novel initiative by young Omani entrepreneurs has enabled the transformation of part of picturesque Al Mughsail into a popular tourist destination.
Titled ‘Lamer Al Mughsail’, the project represents a qualitative addition to Al Mughsail’s growing popularity as a tourist draw during the Khareef Dhofar Season.
According to Nader bin Bakhit Fadhil, founder of the project, Lamer Al Mughsail was first launched during the 2022 Khareef Dhofar Season. A group of young Omanis got together to invest in tourist facilities and amenities that leverage the natural appeal of a creek leading to Khor Fakheet at Al Mughsail. Those investments have capitalised on Al Mughsail’s white-sandy beaches, natural blowholes and its proximity to the popular Al Marneef Cave.
Central to the project is a vision to create a sustainable investment model that enhances the governorate's attractiveness and consolidates its position as a diversified tourist destination, he said.
The project's facilities were designed to meet the aspirations of various segments of the community and include a corner for restaurants and cafes, a children's play area and a bicycle ride area, in addition to boat tours to explore the waterway in Khor Fakheet, an artificial waterfall that adds an aesthetic and recreational element and beach seating areas prepared for visitors' comfort.
He pointed out that the project's economic and social value lies in providing a seasonal source of income for young people, supporting the local economy. It is also an environmentally friendly project, as it reorganises the wadi’s course and transforms it into a clean, organised space that takes sustainability into account.
The project founder emphasised that 'Lamer Al Mughsail' embodies the youth's vision of building contemporary tourist destinations based on local investment, creativity and innovation, while adhering to environmental sustainability. It serves as an inspiring model for quality youth projects and contributes to enhancing the governorate's tourist destinations. — ONA
