Teachers begin new academic year tomorrow

MUSCAT: The new academic year, 2025/2026, will kick off tomorrow (Monday) for the teaching and administrative staff in all educational institutions and schools across the Sultanate of Oman.
The students will begin their new academic year next Sunday.
The Ministry of Education stated that it has received 16 new schools in nine educational directorates to operate at the beginning of the new academic year. The ministry has earmarked RO 20 million for the establishment of 80 new schools as well as new facilities in existing schools. New facilities have already been implemented in 68 schools at a cost of RO 15 million with 53 of them expected to be operational this year. An amount of RO 7 million has been allocated for renovation work, RO 4 million to refurnish 77 science laboratories.
The ministry formed committees from various education directorates across the governorates to review school transportation and ensure they meet safety and security specifications before renewing contracts. The ministry renewed 20,828 transportation contracts. Furthermore, the educational directorates across the governorates floated tenders to lease 800 new school buses.
The Ministry of Education said that work is underway to install advanced AI-powered visual surveillance systems in a number of public schools across the governorates. This project is financed by Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) and the ministry’s Initiatives Support Committee, at a cost of RO 200,150.
