Credit growth continues as commercial bank balances rise

MUSCAT: Conventional commercial banks in Oman continued to expand their lending, with the total credit balance granted rising 7.2 per cent during the period from June 2024 to June 2025.
Credit to the private sector grew by 4.8 per cent, reaching RO 21.5 billion by the end of June 2025.
On the investment side, total bank investments in securities rose 1.3 per cent to approximately RO 5.7 billion. Investments in government development bonds increased by 5.1 per cent to RO 2 billion, while investments in foreign securities fell 6 per cent to RO 2.1 billion.
On the liabilities side, total deposits at conventional commercial banks grew 4.7 per cent, reaching RO 25.8 billion. Government deposits surged 9.9 per cent to RO 5.9 billion, whereas public sector deposits declined 7.3 per cent to RO 1.7 billion. Private sector deposits rose 4 per cent to RO 17.1 billion, accounting for 66.4 per cent of total deposits. - ONA
