MUSCAT: The Ministry of Social Development and Sohar International signed a cooperation agreement to fund and implement 40 home-based projects for girls with intellectual disabilities. This initiative aims to enhance their economic empowerment and support their integration into society.
The agreement was signed by Shaikh Rashid bin Ahmed al Shamsi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Social Development, and Abdulwahid bin Mohammed al Murshidi, CEO of Sohar International.
The agreement includes providing training opportunities for girls enrolled at the Vocational Rehabilitation Centre in Al Seeb. This training will equip them with the skills needed to launch home-based projects in various fields, including hand weaving, sewing, and the production of incense and perfumes. The goal is to empower them economically and socially, and to develop their skills, enabling them to integrate into the labour market and enhance their independence.
The agreement aims to provide comprehensive social protection directed at the most vulnerable segments to enable them to become self-reliant. — ONA
