Muscat, August 12
Recent years have seen the construction of numerous schools with modern, future-oriented specifications that align with the educational requirements of this era. This, along with a qualitative shift in the educational infrastructure, is part of the Ministry of Education's efforts to provide modern school buildings to create a comfortable and stimulating learning environment.
The Ministry of Education emphasises that building schools contributes to providing equal educational opportunities for all and strengthening the educational infrastructure in the governorates. The opening of the new schools aims to accommodate the growing student population and reduce the number of evening schools.
Recently, the Ministry of Education took over the January 11 School building for grades 1-4 in the Wilayat of Mahout, Al Wusta Governorate, at a total cost of more than RO 1.6 million. The school includes 36 fully equipped classrooms, equipped with modern facilities and advanced designs that align with educational developments and meet the needs of the new generation, supporting a pioneering educational process that achieves Oman's future aspirations.
Curriculum development is also a priority for the Ministry of Education, as it is a fundamental pillar for enhancing students' abilities to keep pace with global developments. The ministry also implemented a plan to develop vocational and technical education for grades eleven and twelve.
The school buildings are implemented in partnership with the private sector to ensure quality construction, speedy completion and timely delivery. The project also transfers implementation risks to the private sector, designing school buildings in an innovative and modern manner that aligns with educational developments. This improves the learning environment within school buildings, increases the efficiency of electrical energy use in these buildings, obligates developers to maintain the buildings and preserve the assets in their modern condition for more than 25 years, and uses the available spaces to establish investment projects.
The new schools represent a step that reflects the Sultanate of Oman's commitment to promoting education and community development in various governorates, and providing a stimulating and safe educational environment for students in this vital sector.
Meanwhile, a project to replace school transportation vehicles with 5,000 vehicles over a period of five years was implemented, including 1,000 buses that were replaced during the academic year 2024/2025. This project was implemented in coordination with the Development Bank and Karwa Motors to include modern security and safety systems, tracking devices and sensors.
Dr Khalid al Azri, General Manager of Human Resources and Administrative Affairs at Karwa Motors, stated that the new school buses contain two additional doors, cameras, sensors and an automatic fire extinguishing system to protect students.
