AL ASHKHARAH: The public park in Al Ashkharah came alive with energy and celebration during a special women-only event as part of the second week of the ‘Ajwaa Al Ashkharah 2025’ Festival.
Organised by the Al Sharqiyah South Governorate, the event offered a joyful, safe space to celebrate Omani heritage, women’s empowerment and family bonding.
Tailored exclusively for women and children, the day featured a mix of cultural performances, traditional music, crafts and child-friendly activities. Visitors were welcomed into a vibrant atmosphere where privacy, tradition and modern entertainment seamlessly coexisted.
The event opened with a captivating performance by a women’s folk ensemble in the heritage village, reviving cherished Omani dances and songs such as Razfah, Ziffah and Bughalah. For many, it was a moving, nostalgic experience.
“It reminded me of the celebrations my grandmother used to host”, said Umm Mariam al Ghailani, a visitor from Sur. “It’s beautiful to see these traditions preserved in such an elegant and respectful way”.
A central part of the programme focused on children, with interactive play zones, storytelling and creative workshops. Mothers and children participated side by side, deepening family ties through shared experience.
“Today’s event was exceptional”, said Kholoud al Rawahi, a mother of three. “It allowed us to enjoy time together while I also had space for women-focused activities”.
Evening highlights included the lively ‘Childhood Joy’ show, interactive competitions and a women-only prize draw featuring smart gadgets, shopping vouchers and locally sponsored gifts — a gesture that also supported small businesses and local entrepreneurs.
Festival organisers emphasised that the women-only day was an intentional effort to foster inclusion, comfort and empowerment.
“It wasn’t just about entertainment”, said the event organiser. “It was about reconnection — with tradition, with one another and with the joy of shared cultural experience”.
Looking ahead, the festival promises more exciting events, including a traditional Razhah performance by a folk group from Masirah, classic Omani games and roaming entertainers — ensuring the entire family remains engaged throughout.
Running until early August, Ajwaa Al Ashkharah 2025 continues to highlight Oman’s rich cultural fabric while promoting domestic tourism, supporting local businesses and strengthening community ties.
With its inclusive spirit and dynamic programming, Al Ashkharah is fast becoming a summer hotspot where tradition meets joyful innovation — and every visitor feels right at home.
