The enforcement officers at the Directorate General of Consumer Protection (CPA) in North Al Batinah Governorate seized a group of expatriate workers engaged in manufacturing and upholstering furniture in the Wilayat of Suhar, in an environment lacking the minimum health standards.
This comes within the framework of the Directorate’s ongoing efforts to monitor markets in a manner that ensures the protection of consumers’ rights, health, and safety.
During the inspection rounds, officers observed that expatriate workers were manufacturing and upholstering furniture in an unlicensed location.
Accordingly, a task force was formed from the enforcement specialists at the Directorate to investigate the matter, and it was confirmed that the workers were indeed carrying out furniture manufacturing and upholstery in an unauthorized place.
This act constitutes a violation of the Consumer Protection Law due to the unlimited risks it poses to the health and safety of consumers.
As per Article 3 of the Consumer Protection Law, which states: “It is prohibited to trade in any goods or provide any services before meeting all health and safety requirements and obtaining the necessary licenses or approvals from the competent authority.”
It also violates Article (19) of the Executive Regulations of the Consumer Protection Law, which stipulates: “The provider is prohibited from deceiving or attempting to deceive the consumer by any means regarding the truth, nature, type, source, composition, benefit, or elements of any commodity or service.” Accordingly, the judicial control officers proceeded to take the necessary legal measures in this regard.
The Consumer Protection Authority affirms that such practices are violations of the Consumer Protection Law and its Executive Regulations and pose a direct threat to consumer health and safety. The Authority urges everyone to report any violations through the approved official channels.
