MUSCAT,: Oman’s national men’s volleyball team will face a crucial showdown against Qatar this evening, on Friday, in the semifinals of the West Asia Men’s Volleyball Championship. The match is scheduled to kick off at 6:00 pm Muscat time at the Isa Bin Rashid Hall in Isa Town Sports City, Kingdom of Bahrain. The Red Warriors are aiming to deliver a major upset and secure a spot in the final of the most prestigious volleyball title in West Asia, especially after a steady improvement in their technical and mental performance throughout the tournament.
The Omani team enters the match on a high after an impressive straight sets victory over the UAE in the quarterfinals, showcasing strong defensive organisation and tactical discipline in what was one of their finest performances of the tournament so far. On the other side, Qatar also advanced to the semifinals with a 3-0 win over Lebanon and heads into this match as one of the tournament favorites, having topped their group with three consecutive wins, thanks to their experienced players and cohesive lineup.


This encounter carries extra weight, as the two teams previously met during the preliminary round, with Qatar emerging victorious in a 3-1 match marked by significant tactical shifts. Tonight, Oman steps into the match with a spirit of sporting revenge and a desire to affirm their evolution throughout the competition.
In the other semifinal match, tournament hosts Bahrain will take on Saudi Arabia. Bahrain has been in dominant form, cruising through the group stage without dropping a single set and easily defeating Kuwait 3-0 in the quarterfinals. Saudi Arabia, for their part, reached the semis after a similar 3-0 win over Jordan. A tightly contested match is expected between the two sides.
Speaking ahead of the match, Oman’s head coach Reza Hossein Vakili described the clash with Qatar as a pivotal moment in the team’s championship journey, emphasising that the players enter the match with high spirits and renewed confidence after their emphatic win against the UAE.
We fully recognise that Qatar is one of the strongest teams in Asia, with standout players across all positions, Vakili said. However, we also have a group of athletes who have shown maturity and the ability to rise to challenges in previous matches. While individual differences exist, it’s tactical discipline and mental focus that decide matches at this stage.


The coach noted that the technical staff spent the past two days thoroughly analysing Qatar’s strengths and weaknesses to craft a precise tactical plan. Both the physical and mental preparation have been at the highest level, and the players are motivated to give their best. Our goal is clear to reach the final and we will give everything to achieve that, he added.
He concluded, we’re not here to make excuses; we’re here to find solutions. We’ll fight for every point and play with a united team spirit to bring joy to Omani fans.
Team captain Saud al Maamari echoed the sentiment, stating that the team enters the match with unwavering determination. we know this is a decisive turning point, and we must be fully focused.
