Muscat: The Authority for Projects, Tenders and Local Content has floated Tender No. 2025/64 (Local) for the implementation of the Nizwa–Bahla dual carriageway project (Marfa’ Daris–Jibreen section).
In addition, a separate tender has been floated for the construction of the Sur Youth Cultural Centre, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen infrastructure development in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate.
It may be noted that this improvement is expected to bring relief to users of these roads due to frequent fatal accidents on this stretch, and the public has been demanding the dualisation of this road to reduce the number of fatal accidents.
A member of Majlis Ash’shura has called for urgent intervention to address the dangers of the Nizwa–Bahla road following a deadly accident.
Ahmed al Abri, the representative of Nizwa in Majlis Ash’shura, described the road as “repeatedly claiming lives” and highlighted its poor safety standards.
“This narrow, shoulderless road has turned into a deadly pathway,” said al Abri in a statement, citing the most recent accident as further evidence of the road’s critical condition.
He appealed to the Ministry of Transport to prioritise the road for dualisation, stressing the need for immediate action to prevent further tragedies.
“We urge the authorities to expedite the process of developing this road. It has become an urgent necessity to protect lives and put an end to this ongoing loss,” he said.
