Muscat: Muscat Municipality has sought investment in a plot of land in the Misfah area of the Wilayat of Bawshar to establish truck parking spaces.
The plot no 1578 spread over an area of 120,000 sqm in the Misfah area will be developed to provide an opportunity for those who wish to invest, by offering a public auction to exploit the above-mentioned land to implement a truck parking project, provided that the area for truck parking spaces is not less than 80 percent of the plot of land.
Apart from truck parking spaces, the projects include service facilities (management office, rest areas, toilets, maintenance workshop, maintenance and washing center, spare parts and sales of tyres, and a café).
The duration of the contract is 20 years with a grace period of 12 months for the payment of rent.
Muscat Work has been warning in recent times that the city of Muscat is facing the issue of random parking of trucks and heavy equipment in residential and commercial areas, which has many negative impacts on the surrounding areas. 'Making diligent efforts to address this issue to preserve the urban character of the city and maintain the beauty and safety of residential neighborhoods for all residents,' the municipality said.
According to residents and road users, trucks parked haphazardly on roads and in residential areas obstruct traffic flow, can obstruct visibility, creating dangerous situations for other drivers and pedestrians, especially in busy areas, and also can hinder the movement of emergency vehicles.
In 2023, the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology issued the first license for a “land transport yard” in the Sultanate of Oman in the Wilayat of Liwa in the North Al Batinah Governorate.
The area of the licensed yard was estimated at about 30,000 square meters, accommodating more than 250 means of transportation of various types of land transport, such as trucks, heavy vehicles, and buses. The accommodation yard also serves several logistical areas - the ports, free zones, and industrial cities.
