HAIMA: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, represented by the Roads Department in Al Wusta Governorate, has intensified efforts to prepare and enhance the road network linking Al Wusta to Dhofar Governorate, ensuring safe and smooth travel during the khareef season.

Eng Bakhit bin Salem Al Awad, Director of the Roads Department in Al Wusta, said the department began implementing a comprehensive field plan in early June in collaboration with maintenance companies. The plan aims to boost road efficiency and secure them for the anticipated increase in traffic during the khareef season.

He explained that 11 specialised machines have been deployed to clear dust and sand from key roadways, supported by technical teams and emergency equipment working around the clock to address any sudden issues.

Among the priority routes are Sultan Said bin Taimur Road (265 km), the coastal road (Sinaw–Mahout–Al Jazir), and Al Ashkharah–Mahout–Al Jazir road, covering a total of 431 km. In addition, maintenance and rehabilitation work was completed on the 310-metre Suqra Pass in Al Jazir, with all essential traffic safety measures put in place before the season.

The department has also upgraded Al Juba–Haj road in the Wilayat of Mahout, extending 14.8 km, by widening shoulders and repairing damaged sections to improve infrastructure and reduce accidents.

Al Awad confirmed that the Roads Department continues to enhance traffic safety and is utilising all available resources to keep the transportation network free of damage. Field teams remain on constant alert to monitor traffic conditions and provide immediate support when needed. - ONA
