Al Dhahirah registers record wheat production

IBRI: Wheat production in Al Dhahirah Governorate for the 2024/2025 agricultural season has seen a 260 per cent increase at 1,118 tonnes, compared to the previous season’s figure of 310 tonns.

Data provided by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources indicates that the total wheat acreage in Al Dhahirah Governorate for the 2024/2025 season reaches 759 acres with a 153 increase compared to the previous season which amounted to 300 acres.

Al Dhahirah Governorate ranked second among the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman in terms of wheat production for the current season, after Dhofar Governorate with a total production of 7,583 tonnes on an agricultural area of 6,400 acres. Al Dhahirah Governorate also ranks second in the number of wheat farmers in the Sultanate of Oman after Al Dakhiliyah Governorate which has 1,108 farmers.

The Saih Al Salam area in the Wilayat of Dhank is considered one of the top fertile areas for wheat cultivation in Al Dhahirah Governorate. As part of efforts to enhance local production, lands in Saih Al Salam have been allocated for wheat cultivation. This has contributed significantly to achieving record numbers with production reaching 190 tonnes.

Production quantities produced at investment projects in the Wilayat of Ibri reached 90 tonnes.
