'Sports Spark' programme to keep children busy during summer

The Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC) has unveiled a variety of sports activities for Omani and expatriate children, aimed at keeping them engaged during the summer months.

The annual indoor sports event, titled Sports Spark, will take place from July 18 to August 16 in OCEC Halls 1 and 2. Children will participate in their favourite sports and fun activities throughout the day, according to OCEC management.

'We are excited to host the annual indoor sports event for children during the summer months. This year's programme includes football, basketball, pickleball, badminton, cricket and fast-growing activities like e-gaming, among others,' said Eng Said bin Salim al Shanfari, CEO of OCEC.

'The initiative reflects OCEC's commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles and making sports accessible to all.' Last year's event attracted over 30,000 participants, and Sports Spark 2025 is returning with an even wider range of activities.

'The event aims to promote fitness and well-being during the hot summer months by providing the community with access to high-quality, air-conditioned facilities and a variety of sports,' said Al Shanfari.

Teams, individuals and clubs can book facilities with multiple time slots available throughout the day. Parents can also register their children for a summer camp until July 5, while corporations can provide access to the facilities for their employees, promoting fitness and well-being in the workplace.

'This isn't just about transforming our exhibition halls into a sports haven; it's about promoting summer activity and fitness across all age groups. For an entire month, the OCEC will be a place for people to play, move and connect, with summer camps for kids, corporate challenges, tournaments, and more. It's not just about hosting an event; it's about forming habits, creating access and demonstrating the benefits of sports for your body, mind and community. I invite everyone to discover the best that Sports Spark has to offer,' Al Shanfari added.
