NIZWA: Al Noor Association for the Blind, in partnership with Oman Refreshment Company (REFCO), has launched a new initiative to support individuals with visual impairments in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate. The community initiative includes the distribution of key assistive tools such as white canes, Braille paper, tactile watches, specialised sports balls and glucose monitors — resources that can help people lead more independent lives.
The equipment was distributed during a community gathering hosted at Al Noor’s centre in Nizwa, Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, bringing together members of the blind and low-vision community, volunteers, supporters and representatives from Oman REFCO.
Sultan bin Ahmed al Sabahi, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Al Noor Association for the Blind, said: “This collaboration reflects our shared commitment with Oman REFCO to social responsibility and inclusion. Together, we’re helping more people across Oman access the tools they need to pursue education, employment, and fuller participation in society.”
Sulaiman bin Abdullah al Salmi, Director of People, Culture and Corporate Services at Oman REFCO, added: “As a company deeply connected to the communities we serve, we are grateful to support Al Noor Association for the Blind, whose work addresses real needs with care and consistency. As a company with deep roots in Oman, we’re glad to contribute to efforts that strengthen our local communities.”
This initiative falls within the ongoing collaboration between Al Noor Association for the Blind and Oman Refreshment Company (REFCO), reflecting both entities’ commitment to supporting and empowering individuals with visual impairments, and enhancing their role in society by providing tools that improve quality of life and promote meaningful inclusion across all aspects of daily life.
Globally, visual impairment remains a major challenge. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 2 billion people live with vision impairment. Yet only 36 per cent of them have access to the basic tools they need. Through this initiative, Al Noor Association for the Blind and Oman REFCO hope to offer practical support that makes a meaningful difference at the community level.
