MUSCAT: Acting in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources has carried out field trials to test the efficiency of drones in combating desert locusts. The step forms part of the Ministry’s efforts to develop modern aerial spraying techniques used in combating locusts and other pests in farming areas.

The event seeks to assess aerial spraying techniques, including drones, and develop them as standard measures in member states of Desert Locust Control Commissions. The event saw the participation of FAO experts and representatives of local and international companies specialised in developing aerial spraying technologies through the use of drones. — ONA
