Based on the importance of the family in the socialisation process, the Ministry of Social Development is training marital guidance trainers for those preparing to get married.
The marital guidance trainers receive training that equips them with effective communication, presentation and dialogue skills, as well as modern presentation techniques. They are also introduced to the concepts and fundamentals of marital guidance for those preparing to get married, enabling them to take on their family responsibilities and build a safe and stable family.
Saeed bin Rashid al Maktoumi, Head of the Family Counseling Section at the Family Guidance and Counseling Department, stated that the training programme for marital guidance trainers aims to provide the team of trainers in the regional directorates in the governorates with the necessary knowledge, skills, and topics related to successful marital life. This will help reduce the occurrence of problems and disputes that could ultimately lead to divorce and family breakdown.
Samra al Maashari, a psychologist at the Family Guidance and Counseling Department, said, 'Trainers acquire many skills, including effective communication. This involves using thoughts, sounds, signals, or behaviour to exchange information or express ideas, feelings, or other things to another party. This includes understanding one's life partner in terms of representational systems and employing them in effective communication using visual, auditory, digital and kinaesthetic modes.'
The Ministry of Social Development, represented by the Family Guidance and Counseling Department, recently organised a training programme for marital counseling trainers. This programme is part of the national project to prepare those getting ready for marriage in various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman. The programme involved 37 participants from various directorates and departments affiliated with the Ministry across the Sultanate of Oman. The importance of this training stems from the family's crucial role in the socialisation process and its connection to the stability of society and the effectiveness of its members.
The ministry emphasises the importance of marital compatibility in organising family planning based on family affairs. Family planning includes various types such as financial planning, reproductive planning, managing internal and external family relations, effective parenting and fatherhood, continuous learning and promoting entertainment.
