Muscat, April 22

Under the slogan 'We Cooperate to Make It Cleaner', the Municipality of Al Sharqiyah South launched a comprehensive awareness campaign aimed at maintaining public hygiene across the various wilayats of the governorate. The initiative comes within the broader framework of efforts to enhance environmental standards and foster a stronger culture of community responsibility towards maintaining a clean and healthy environment.

The campaign focuses on promoting positive behaviour among citizens and residents, encouraging them to adopt environmentally sound practices such as the proper disposal of waste and the maintenance of cleanliness across beaches, residential neighbourhoods, public parks and facilities. By addressing both individual and collective responsibilities, the campaign aspires to instil sustainable habits that contribute to long-term environmental preservation.

The Director of the Events and Awareness Department emphasised the critical role of collaborative community action in achieving a clean and sustainable environment. He noted that maintaining cleanliness is a shared responsibility that requires the active participation of all segments of society, highlighting the importance of community partnerships in reaching the campaign’s objectives.

The campaign features a wide range of activities designed to reach various segments of society and ensure the message of public hygiene resonates broadly. These activities include the distribution of informative leaflets in public areas, organisation of clean-up events in beaches and residential neighbourhoods, and leveraging the power of social media platforms to disseminate targeted awareness messages.

Participants are encouraged to view cleanliness not merely as a personal obligation, but as a collective commitment to the well-being of the entire community.

A defining feature of this campaign is its emphasis on community engagement and partnership. The municipality has collaborated closely with educational institutions, volunteer groups, environmental activists and local residents to ensure that the campaign is truly community-driven. Such partnerships are key to sustaining the campaign’s impact and ensuring that the message of environmental stewardship is embraced by all sectors of society.
