MUSCAT: The Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion has announced the cancellation of 35,778 commercial registrations for businesses that have ceased operations or expired. This move is part of ongoing efforts to regulate the market and ensure that only active, compliant businesses remain in operation.
The cancellations were part of the second phase of a review process focused on businesses whose licenses had either expired or businesses that had stopped functioning. The affected companies were registered between 2000 and 2020. Notably, the cancellations exclude joint-stock companies and individual traders.
Mohammed bin Salem al Hashemi, Director of the Commercial Establishments Control Department, highlighted that these actions are crucial for organizing the marketplace and ensuring that data and statistics accurately reflect the number of active businesses in Oman. He also noted that businesses not operational since 2021 wishing to cancel their registration must complete a form in collaboration with the Royal Oman Police and the Tax Authority to ensure no outstanding obligations exist.
This follows an earlier phase in which 3,415 commercial registrations were canceled for businesses that ceased operations or expired between 1970 and 1999. — ONA
