CAIRO: The Sultanate of Oman took part on Monday in the ministerial meeting of the extraordinary session of the Economic and Social Council in Cairo, Egypt, as part of the preparations for the fifth session of the Arab Development Summit, which is scheduled to take place on May 17, in Iraq, alongside the 34th regular session of the Arab Summit.

Oman’s delegation was led by Dr Said bin Mohammed al Saqri, Minister of Economy.

The meeting focused on advancing the goals of the Greater Arab Free Trade Area and the Arab Customs Union, including the liberalisation of trade in goods, updating rules of origin, enhancing the implementation of the Trade in Services Liberalisation Agreement, and improving customs cooperation.

It also covered topics related to economic sustainability, such as updating the Arab Water Security Strategy to address resource scarcity challenges and the Arab Strategy for Manpower Development and Employment to adapt to economic and technological changes.

Additionally, the meeting reviewed the Arab Vision 2045, a strategic framework aimed at fostering a knowledge-based economy, promoting sustainability and enhancing regional integration, while underscoring the importance of establishing executive mechanisms to ensure sustainable development in the Arab world. — ONA
