MUSCAT: Nakhal Theatre Group is set to represent the Sultanate of Oman at the 11th Fujairah International Monodrama Festival, scheduled from April 10 to 18. The festival, a gathering of creative minds and pioneering talents, will feature 19 diverse theatrical performances and host more than 500 distinguished guests from the global theatre community.
Nakhal Theatre Group will stage the play 'Metre by Metre,' which follows the poignant journey of Burhan, a young activist thrown into a one-metre-by-one-metre solitary confinement cell after losing his family and everything he owns. The play unfolds through powerful, emotionally charged scenes that explore his longing for freedom and his fight to reclaim it. The narrative blends the writer’s vision with an intense theatrical spectacle that reflects raw human struggle and resilience.
The performance is delivered by actor Sami al Busaidy, directed by Ahmed al Zadjali, with writing and conceptual direction by Osama al Salimi. The musical score is composed by Naeem al Subhi, and general supervision is provided by Youssef al Balushi.
Speaking about the participation, Sami Al Busaidy noted, “We aim to present a unique theatrical experience that delves into a deep social and human reality. Our approach uses visual storytelling that aligns with the evolving landscape of theatre in Oman and resonates with contemporary Arab and international styles.”
Nakhal Theatre Troupe, operating under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, has been active since the 1990s and is known for promoting the importance of theatrical art in enriching cultural awareness and human expression.
