Muscat all set for GCC Beach Games opening

Muscat: The third edition of GCC Beach Games 'Muscat 2025' will begin its activities on Saturday as the official opening ceremony of the Games will take place this evening under the auspices of His Highness Sayyid Malik bin Shihab al Said at Qurum Natural Park. The ceremony will mark the formal launch of the competitions as the Gulf athletes will be vying for podium finishes.

The beach handball and paramotoring events will start on Saturday besides other games in the tournament which will be hosted in the Sultanate of Oman from April 5 to 11 with participation of all the GCC countries including United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and hosts Oman. The showpiece event will feature eight sports disciplines including beach soccer, beach handball, beach volleyball, beach athletics, sailing, marathon swimming, paramotoring and equestrian (tent pegging).

Hosting of this top GCC Beach Games in Oman highlights its commitment to strengthening sports cooperation among GCC countries and supporting the development of beach sports in line with international standards. It also reflects Oman’s leadership in organising major sporting events and reinforces its status as a premier destination for beach sports, thanks to its unique geography and extensive coastlines that offer an ideal setting for such competitions.

The opening ceremony will be attended by top dignitaries including GCC Olympic Committee presidents and senior officials from sports bodies across the GCC and at the regional and international levels. The ceremony will include performances and artistic displays celebrating Omani and Gulf cultural identity and embodying the spirit and values of the Games.

450 ATHLETES

Oman’s Asaad al Hasani, a player of the national beach handball team, will be the national flag bearer while Khalid al Oraimi from the national beach soccer team will take the athletes’ oath.

Oman's official delegation for the opening ceremony will feature Ahmed al Jahdhami, Omar al Balushi and Hamoud al Hanadhli representing the Oman Olympic Committee. Oman national team representatives in all the participating sports will attend in the opening ceremony to represent the country during the opening march past.

As many as 450 confirmed athletes will vie for medals in the eight events.

The Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex venue in Bausher will host beach soccer competitions from April 7 to 11 besides beach handball from April 5 to 11. Azaiba Beach will stage beach volleyball matches from April 8 to 11 and athletics events from April 8 to 10. Al Mouj Muscat will be the venue for marathon swimming events from April 9 to 11 while sailing competitions will take place at Al Hail North Beach from April 6 to 10. Paramotor events will be held from April 5 to 7 while tent pegging event will take place at Al Rahba Farm from April 8 to 10.
