KHASAB: The Musandam branch of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) hosted an evening event titled ‘Municipal Councils and Their Role in Society and Development’ under the auspices of Sayyid Ibrahim bin Said al Busaidy, Governor of Musandam. The event brought together key figures to discuss the pivotal role municipal councils play in fostering local development and strengthening community engagement.
Speakers highlighted how municipal councils serve as a crucial bridge between citizens and the government by addressing community needs, enhancing local services and spearheading infrastructure projects. The evening underscored the councils’ contributions to creating a more vibrant business environment through strategic planning and public-private partnerships, which have already resulted in significant improvements in the governorate.
Sayyid Ibrahim bin Said al Busaidy remarked, “This Ramadhan evening is designed to promote open dialogue and collaboration, paving the way for sustainable development and ensuring that citizens’ aspirations are met.” The event also celebrated the OCCI’s ongoing commitment to nurturing community communication and cultivating a culture of constructive engagement.
Additional discussions during the session covered key municipal issues — from educational performance and digital transformation in Musandam to proposals for improved public services, such as potable water delivery in Khasab and the development of local crafts. These initiatives reflect a broad effort to address both current challenges and future opportunities for growth across the governorate. This well-attended event reinforced the integral role of municipal councils in shaping a responsive and dynamic development agenda for Musandam, ensuring that local voices remain central to the governorate's progress. - ONA
