Inflation in Oman rises 1 per cent in February 2025

MUSCAT: The inflation rate in the Sultanate of Oman rose by 1% in February 2025 compared to the same month in 2024, with the base year 2018, according to consumer price index data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The data indicated a 6.3% increase in the prices of various goods and services groups, a 3.4% increase in the transportation group, and a 3.2% increase in the health group. Prices of restaurants and hotels also rose by 0.8%, clothing and footwear by 0.5%, and culture and entertainment by 0.4%. In addition, the furniture, household equipment, and maintenance group witnessed a 0.3% increase, the food and non-alcoholic beverages group by 0.1%, and the education group by 0.1%. Meanwhile, the prices of housing, water, electricity, gas, other fuels, communications, and tobacco groups remained stable.
Regarding the food and beverages group for February 2025, prices for milk, cheese, and eggs increased by 3.3 per cent, food products not classified as elsewhere by 3.3 per cent, and sugar, jam, honey, and sweets by 3 per cent. Fruit prices also rose by 2.1 per cent, oils and fats by 1.3 per cent, and bread and cereals by 0.7 per cent. Conversely, fish and seafood prices decreased by 5.9 per cent, vegetables by 2.2 per cent, and meat by 0.3 per cent.
At the geographical level, the index rose by 1.8 per cent in Musandam Governorate by the end of February 2025 compared to the same period last year. It also rose by 1.8 per cent in Ad Dakhiliyah Governorate, 1.5 per cent in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, and 1.5 per cent in Al Wusta Governorate.
The Al Dhahirah Governorate also witnessed a 1.2 per cent increase, followed by a 1.1 per cent increase in Dhofar Governorate, a 1 per cent increase in Al Buraimi Governorate, and a 0.9 per cent increase in Muscat Governorate. The rate rose by 0.6 per cent in North Al Batinah Governorate and 0.5 per cent in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate, while the increase was slight in South Al Batinah by 0.1 per cent. — ONA
